Parked cars less visually intrusive than parked bikes

Brighton, Uk – residents have been ordered to remove bicycle storage sheds in their front gardens because they “ruin the street scene”. Read the article here. To summerise, there are no barriers to residents parking their vehicles in front of their house or even in the front garden, but there are against doing so safely with your bike. This would be far more understandable if the reason wasn’t that these rather nice looking sheds ruin the street scene (which, subjectively, they don’t) and instead was the very real problem of people then putting up all kinds of out-buildings all over the place. Still, a bike storage shed isn’t any bigger than a car, and you can put them anywhere, regardless of how rusty and clapped-out they are. Or, even if it’s brand new, would you want a glossy Hummer dripping with chrome and rollin’ on 22’s parked out front? Eye sore? I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe they should send the local council some glasses.
This is less of an eye-sore by council standards.
