Meet Tom Ritchey. Old school. New school. Your school. My school. It doesn’t matter what you think or what school you subscribe to, Tom Ritchey is one cool guy. Here, he tells us about why his local roads are special, why bikes are special, and why we ride, again, and again, and again.
This video made me think a few things, but the one I’m thinking about right now is one reason why I think bikes and the riding of them is the greatest. They are such a simple object, yet they hold so much potential. And because they are so full of potential, so perfect in their simplicity, I think that’s why they inspire people. Not towards riches (usually), but a more simple inspiration to create, to improve. Better fitness, better resolve, more discipline, pushing your limits, discovering new destinations, clearing your mind, and I’m sure it is during all these things that Tom Ritchey finds inspriation to create new and better ways to innovate the simple bicycle. He makes stuff to make cycling better.
For some reason, the fact that he not only creates some pretty blingy bike equipment and has created a Ritchey empire, but still uses a groupset that is approaching ten years old, makes me like him even more. Testament to the fact that he doesn’t change merely for the sake of it. Good thing, because he still pulls off a pretty great mo.
