Bike safety through the ages...

Bike safety through the ages…

Bike safety. When they were new and strange objects, bicycle safety was understandably about how to ride a bike safely. That clearly still applies today, but there was a time when killing a cyclists with your car was not an accident, but a homicide. Because society has been re-engineered around the automobile, bike safety has become more about not staying out of the way, where the burden of one’s own safety begins and ends with you.

Anyway, that’s for another day, not least because I’ve ended up with no time to get stuck into this (or anything else), and so I’ll let these… interesting… videos speak for themselves.

This one from 1948 is hard to take seriously, for obvious reasons, but actually… I see people each and every day who could benefit from nearly all of this advice.

1963. This is a slightly abridged version of this video, but wow… it’s weird, and a bit creepy…

And now the 80’s. It was a rough time.

There’s actually a part 2, but as you’ll probably not be able to get past the first minute of part 1…

It’s a crazy world. Stay safe out there folks.
